Eid al-Adha – It Means – Festival of the Sacrifice – Bakrid or Bakra-Eid.

Bakra Eid festival is celebrated to honor the Ibrahim’s will to sacrifice his son on Allah’s command. Abraham (also known as Ibrahim) agreed to sacrifice his son on Almighty Allah’s will. When he was about to sacrifice his son, an angel stopped him for killing him. Ibrahim’s son was replaced by a Goat.

So Muslims sacrifice an animal like Goat or lamb on this day to honor the Holy incident which happened with Ibrahim. In the Arabic language, the word “Bakar” means a big animal. So they Sacrifice an animal like – Goat, Lamb, Camel, etc. and the day is named as Bakra Eid or Bakrid.

Muslims consider this a very Holy Festival. Bakrid is also called “Greater Eid” because it is most important and sacred among both the Eids.
